"Success is only possible through teamwork. And we are successful because of that." Sven Kus
Hello Sven, please introduce yourself briefly.
Hi, I am Sven Kus and I am 49 years old. I live in Helmbrechts and have been cohabiting with my partner for 24 years. In German you would say live in a "wild marriage" ;-) I prefer to spend my free time outdoors in nature. I especially like to go hunting in my own hunting ground. My other great passion is the fire department: I have been member of the Helmbrechts fire department since 1989. Since 2015 no longer in active service, but I am still happy to support, e.g. at events.
Tell us a little more about your professional career.
My professional career was versatile: I first trained as a shipbuilder, then as a blacksmith and finally learned the profession of aircraft equipment mechanic in the German Armed Forces. I have been part of the team at RAUMEDIC since November 1, 2011. I started in the workshop as an industrial mechanic.
The topic of training has always played an important role for me, because I also worked as a trainer for the fire brigade up to district level. This experience motivated me to want to go in this direction professionally. I have continuously pursued further education privately and, for example, got a vocational trainer's certificate. Then, one day, there was an internal job advertisement for which I applied. And it worked out - since September 1, 2020, I have been an industrial trainer at RAUMEDIC, responsible for our facilities in Münchberg, Feuchtwangen, and Zwönitz.
What does your typical workday look like with us?
My typical work day at RAUMEDIC? Well, there is none 😉 I can't follow a set routine because I need to address the individual concerns of the apprentices every day. My door is always open to be available for them and to support them with their concerns. A crucial part of my responsibilities includes feedback sessions, where we reflect on progress together and set goals.
As a link between the apprentice workshop in REHAU and the vocational school, I coordinate the path of our apprentices. Of course, there’s also the “tedious office work” 🙂 This includes the preparation of deployment plans. Besides directly supporting the apprentices, I am the central contact person for all matters related to industrial vocational training. That means I coordinate with the industrial trainers from various departments, but I also take care of needs, such as a new software. In other words, I handle everything that is necessary to ensure the best possible training for our apprentices.
What excites you most about your work at RAUMEDIC?
I’m particularly excited by the openness to new ideas. We have flat hierarchies, which means I can make decisions quickly and implement new ideas. In our industrial sector, there is a strong sense of collaboration, which makes the work especially enjoyable and simplifies many things.
I’m especially delighted to have the opportunity to guide teenagers and young adults on their journey. The start of each new apprenticeship year on September 1st is always a highlight for me. I get to welcome new apprentices and support them throughout their time with us. This comes with both great responsibility and joy. Everyone learns differently and requires individual encouragement. I enjoy addressing this, providing the best possible support. It’s always wonderful to see their development and how they transition into professional life. It truly makes me proud.
What would you do with an extra hour a day?
If I had an extra hour a day, I would sit on the high seat and look out into nature. That brings me down.
After a particularly stressful day, I often say to my colleagues: "I have to lock myself in the forest now". There, I can switch off easily, when I need some peace and quiet.
Share your best or funniest experience at RAUMEDIC.
Once, I was at a career day at the vocational school. The teacher asked me which company I was from, and I replied, "RAUMEDIC." He then said, "Oh, you're the ones in the medical field who make garden hoses." I couldn't help but smile. Medical equipment and garden hoses don’t quite fit together. It seems he got us confused with REHAU!
What comes to mind when you think of RAUMEDIC and our central value for 2024 "Leading the Future"?
For me, the focus is also on apprenticeship. We offer our apprentices more than just what is outlined in the curriculum. We go a step further, continuously thinking about how we can improve, also by incorporating external insights.
The entire company is future-oriented, and this is also reflected in our training philosophy. We invest heavily in training because we are investing in the future of RAUMEDIC.
To me, "Leading the Future" at RAUMEDIC means that we not only meet current standards but also actively work on shaping the future. We encourage our apprentices and the entire workforce to always think and act a step ahead.
Would you like to share anything else as part of your interview?
To everyone involved in apprenticeship, whether in the commercial or industrial area. Whether it is certified trainers or colleagues in various departments: Success is only possible through teamwork. And we are successful because of that.
Thank you for your insights in your work at RAUMEDIC.
