Hello Werner, please introduce yourself briefly.
My name is Werner Joichl and I am 55 years old. I have one child and live with my family in Vienna. In my free time I enjoy sports, skiing, mountain biking and windsurfing. I thrive on challenges, whether it's within my profession or out in nature.
I am working as Area Sales Manager for the MEDCE region at REHAU/RAUMEDIC.
Tell us more about your sales region.
When I joined REHAU/RAUMEDIC as Area Sales Manager on October 1, 2004, the MEDCE sales region was still in its infancy. At that time, there were only two customer relationships. Despite initial challenges, our region has continued to develop. Together with my team, we have increased turnover 35-fold in recent years.
Our region extends from Austria, Slovakia and the Czech Republic to Russia and Turkey. The countries in the Middle East are also assigned to the MEDCE region. As a result, our region is very diverse and characterized by special cultural features. For geopolitical reasons, active country management has changed in the last two years and the focus is now primarily on the countries of Central Europe.
What exactly does an Area Sales Manager do at RAUMEDIC?
My main task is to find potential customers for our products and services. To do this, I carry out extensive market research and analyze the customer portfolio to identify potential and provide customers with the best possible advice.
One of the biggest challenges is finding the right contacts, successfully getting in touch with them and establishing and maintaining an ongoing dialog. Through many points of contact, it is possible to create interest and find out about needs that lead to inquiries. Moreover, my tasks include company presentations, processing inquiries, preparing offers, and negotiating contracts. I manage customer projects from initial contact through to series production - as a team with my colleagues at headquarters. Particularly in the pharmaceutical sector, which is one of my main areas of work, it takes a lot of persistence. But it's worth it, because we have already successfully made steps into application areas such as drug delivery.
I am also responsible for the strategic direction of our region and coordinating my team. Together, we do everything we can to continuously develop our sales region successfully.
What do you find particularly exciting about your work and RAUMEDIC?
What particularly excites me is the unique combination of innovation, challenge and team spirit. It's great to work in a company that offers such a wide range of opportunities and is in an excellent technological position. Our products are not only of highest quality but many of them also groundbreaking, and I am proud to be part of this team.
From our beginnings to the impressive milestones we have achieved to date, it is incredible to see how RAUMEDIC has evolved. This progress is the result of the great enthusiasm and commitment of every single team member, and I look forward to what we will achieve together in the future. That's what drives me.
And of course: When we receive the customer order, that is my greatest motivation 🙂
What's the best or weirdest thing you've experienced at RAUMEDIC so far?
In Sales, we regularly travel with our sample case containing various product examples of tubing, syringes and catheters. I once flew to Israel with a different airline than usual and had to undergo a special security check. The team was so impressed by our sample suitcase that they thought I was a doctor. Although I repeatedly assured them that I was only selling medical products. It was amusing to see how they refused to believe me and were so impressed by my profession.

The first thing that comes to mind is sustainability. For me, RAUMEDIC is a pioneer in this area. We are working intensively on this topic to offer our customers sustainable solutions. This includes, for example, our ISCC PLUS certification, which confirms our efforts for a sustainable future.
