"It’s a great feeling to be able to develop together with the company – if you really want to!" Andreas Werner
Hello Andreas, please introduce yourself briefly.
My name is Andreas Werner, I am 36 years old and I am from Dinkelsbühl. I am married and have three children. My hobbies mainly revolve around my family, as with three children, there's not quite as much free time ;-) I enjoy spending time with them and exploring the world together, for example, on city trips. When I find the time, I like to do sports. You'll find me swimming, practicing karate or at the gym.
You have an exciting career path at RAUMEDIC. Tell us about it.
Originally, I trained as a mason, but I wanted to do something new. In 2013, I decided to make a career change by joining RAUMEDIC as a production worker. Right from the start, I inquired about development opportunities if one performs well and gives their best. This was affirmed, which was crucial in my decision to take this position. I worked as a production worker for two years, then transitioned to an operator role in thermoplastic extrusion. The colleagues actively shared their knowledge with the "newbies," giving me the chance to further develop my expertise.
In addition, from 2018 to 2020, I completed a retraining program to become a process mechanic for plastics and rubber technology. This was done part-time, with classes on Saturdays and in block instruction, while I continued to work full-time as an operator. With three small children at home, it was not easy.
Nevertheless, my thought after successfully completing the program was: Now I'm fully into learning and have already invested two years. RAUMEDIC is growing, and if I can offer something more, maybe I can grow with the company as well. So, I decided to undertake further training to become an industrial master in plastics and rubber technology from September 2021 to February 2024, also part-time. I showed perseverance and fully committed myself. And it paid off: Since June 2022, I have been working as a shift supervisor. I am grateful for the support I received from RAUMEDIC.
What does a typical workday look like for you?
I have lots of varying tasks. As a shift supervisor in Feuchtwangen, I am also personally involved on the production line. Additionally, I help with optimizations or support with manufacturing problems. My goal is to ensure the production process runs as smooth as possible.
Furthermore, I am responsible for a team of 20 people and make sure that everything runs efficiently. Employee management and development are particularly important to me. I enjoy that I can now actively develop and promote people myself – and thus give something back.
What excites you most about working at RAUMEDIC?
Above all, the trust I receive from my supervisors and the plant management. And the support that is provided. I can contribute my ideas, and there is always someone available to help if something goes wrong.
It’s a great feeling to be able to develop together with the company – if you really want to. Just because you start as a basic production worker doesn’t mean you have to stay there. This and the appreciation I have experienced at RAUMEDIC are what excite me the most.
What makes you happy and helps you unwind after a stressful day?
Spending time with my children. It makes me happy to hear what my children have been doing all day or what is on their minds. And playing with them. These moments with my family are the best balance for me.
Our oldest son will soon be 18. We had him very young. He is about to graduate from school. Therefore, I am especially happy to set a good example for him and help him develop.
What was your best work-related moment this year?
My best moment this year was when we worked closely together as a team despite being under great pressure due to manufacturing problems. We faced the significant challenge together. A colleague brought in great ideas that we implemented immediately. The mutual support and collaboration made this moment so special for me. It was a great example of the cohesion and teamwork in our shift.
The year 2024 at RAUMEDIC will be centered around our value "Leading the future." What comes to mind first when you think of RAUMEDIC and "Leading the future"?
When I think of RAUMEDIC and "Leading the future," the first thing that comes to mind is that the company does not rest on its success. Instead, new projects are continuously launched to explore new opportunities. I find this attitude impressive.
Is there anything else you want to include in your interview?
I am aware that my personal development has also brought changes and additional burdens for my colleagues. They had to do without me and take on extra work so that I could develop further. I want to sincerely thank them for bearing this burden with me and always supporting me. I know it hasn’t always been easy. Just a big thank you to all of them!
Thank you Andreas!
