Hello Sven, can you briefly explain what a machine and plant operator does?

As a machine and plant operator, you are responsible for ensuring that production machines run smoothly. You set them up, start the production process, and monitor everything closely to ensure quality. Another important aspect is maintenance and servicing of the machines. Through regular inspections, you make sure that no malfunctions occur.

If a problem does arise, you are the one who fixes it quickly. Quality control is also part of your job. You check whether the manufactured products meet the specifications and document the production data.

What content and skills are taught during the training?

During the training, you learn everything you need for this profession. This includes setting up, operating, and maintaining machines to ensure that production runs smoothly. You are also trained in quality control and learn how to check whether the manufactured products meet the required standards. Workplace safety is another key part of the training, so you learn to identify hazards and prevent accidents. Environmental protection also plays a role, as production focuses on sustainability and resource conservation. In addition, you will be trained in reading technical drawings and communicating information effectively.

How is the training structured between theory and practice?

The training alternates between theory and practice. At vocational school, you learn the theoretical basics, such as technical processes, safety regulations, and environmental protection. Classes are either held in blocks or on specific days of the week. At the company, you apply what you have learned directly in practice. You set up machines, monitor production processes, perform maintenance, and troubleshoot issues—always with the support of your trainers and experienced colleagues. During the training, there is an interim exam to assess your current level of knowledge. The final exam at the end consists of both a theoretical and a practical part.

What requirements should applicants meet for this training?

To train as a machine and plant operator, you should have a certain technical understanding and an interest in machines. A secondary school diploma or equivalent is a good foundation, but more important are manual skills, careful work, and teamwork. Since you work with machines daily, you should be precise and responsible. It also helps if you can stay calm and focused in stressful situations.

Which qualities are particularly helpful for this profession?

Technical interest is one of the most important prerequisites, as you will be working with machines and various technical devices daily. Accuracy and attention to detail are crucial to ensuring product quality and avoiding errors. Since unexpected malfunctions can occur, good problem-solving skills are important. You often work in a team, so teamwork is essential. Sometimes production can be stressful, so it’s important to remain calm and focused. Additionally, you bear significant responsibility for the machines and product quality, which is why a strong sense of responsibility is a key trait.

Why is RAUMEDIC an especially good training company?

At RAUMEDIC, you not only receive solid training but also have the opportunity to contribute actively and work independently. We place great importance on ensuring that our trainees gain a comprehensive understanding of the entire production process and develop a deep knowledge of their tasks. Moreover, experienced trainers are always available to support you individually in your development.

What career and development opportunities are available after the training?

After the training, there are various opportunities for further development. You can, for example, complete further training to become a technician in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or mechatronics, allowing you to take on more complex tasks. A master craftsman qualification, such as becoming an industrial foreman, enables you to take on leadership roles and responsibility for planning and organizing production processes. If you are interested in commercial and organizational tasks, you can further train as a technical business administrator and work in areas such as production planning or quality management. Additionally, you can specialize in specific fields such as CNC technology, automation technology, or quality assurance.

Do you have any tips for applicants interested in this training?

A well-structured and polished application is essential. In your cover letter, you should clearly and concisely explain why you are interested in this profession and in RAUMEDIC. Practical experience, such as a prior internship, is a great advantage. If you are invited to an interview, you should prepare well and research both RAUMEDIC and the profession of a machine and plant operator. Those who are open, motivated, and curious have the best chances of successfully starting their training.
